Tareq
Khamis has worked in the Satellite Communications industry since
1985. He has been involved in the support, design and project delivery
of complex earth station access equipment, setting up new customer
support centres and selling satellite equipment and services to
service providers and end users. He has regularly lectured at the
University of York Satellite Communications course (MSc module)
and the IEE Satellite Communication Systems residential course.
He has a University College London Electronic Engineering BSc(Eng)
and a First Class Open University BA degree. He obtained a Master
of Business Administration from the Open University in 1998.
Tareq spent 15 years at Hughes Network Systems where he led the
Inmarsat-A software team to design, build and deliver a dual ocean
region Land Earth Station (LES) for Station 12 (now Xantic) in the
Netherlands (1989) and three LES systems for IDB Systems (now Stratos)
in the USA (1991). He successfully program managed a Inmarsat-C
LES system for the Communication Authority of Thailand (1993) and
a major Inmarsat-A expansion and new Inmarsat-C dual ocean region
system for Telecom Italia/Telespazio (1995).
From 1996 to 1998, Tareq led the start-up of a new HNS European
VSAT Customer Assistance Centre. Starting with a very small team,
Tareq developed the resources and capabilities of the centre to
deliver a high quality profitable service.
After working in 1999 as HNS Regional Sales Manager for the UK,
Ireland and Scandinavia, Tareq joined ViaSat in 2000 as the European
Sales Manager. He successfully opened new markets in Greece and
Spain with major wins in both countries. He worked with Eutelsat
and Sea Tel to help introduce a new VSAT Maritime product based
on ViaSat's Skylinx platform working on Eutelsat's DSAT160 service
in 2001. During 2002, Tareq sold and marketed DVB-RCS-like products
in Europe and built up technical and market knowledge of this exiting
new open standard. This will be critical for future two-way satellite
broadband ADSL-like services.
Tareq established Prime Satcom Consulting Ltd in 2003. Tareq has led Prime Satcom Consulting successfully during its first year, working to set up and run Orbit Research Ltd's Satellite Broadband sales business in the UK and internationally and to provide a key consultantcy to PetroData Ltd to research and advise on the best satellite global solution for their new Oil Pump monitoring system.
